Addressing Affective Needs of Gifted Students
Academically, gifted children may show an intense interest in a particular subject. Some gifted children may teach themselves to read, add or subtract at a very early age. However, along with high ability, some gifted children experience asynchronous development. They may be able to do some things very well; however, they may have difficulty with other skills or subjects. They also have emotional intensities that are difficult for them to understand. Often they feel very different than their same age peers; therefore gifted students have affective needs that need to be addressed.
